The explosion took place around 9am on Sunday, 15th of March, 2020 around Abule-Ado in Lagos. Many lives have reportedly been lost while the Catholic Bethlehem Girls high school was completed destroyed.

The principal of the Catholic Bethlehem Girls College (high school), Rev. Sr. Henrietta Alokha lost her life while trying to save the lives of her students.

Unconfirmed reports say between 15 to 100 people lost their lives in the explosion, while many have been rendered homeless because their residential buildings and homes have been destroyed by the explosion and fire. Many buildings around Abule Ado and Festac Town in Lagos collapsed and/or were razed by fire or damaged as a result of the explosion.

The explosion was reportedly caused by a vandalized NNPC pipeline.
